Since 2010, KU’s Department of Film & Media Studies, in partnership with the Hollywood Hawks, has organized a week-long career orientation week in Los Angeles for exceptional graduating seniors pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. During this week, students meet and learn from alumni working in various facets of the “the biz,” visit work sites, and attend workshops, LA Jayhawks watch parties and screenings. By the end of the week, we hope these students have a better understanding of what it takes to break into the entertainment industry and live in Los Angeles (i.e. It’s not such a scary place!), thus making them feel more confident to take the leap. And, finally, we hope they learn the importance of networking and gain some wonderful Jayhawk contacts. Ultimately, we want them to return to Lawrence with less trepidation and MORE FERVOR to begin their professional lives.
