Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in giving back! Since our group is completely volunteer-run, our success is dependent upon our members sharing their expertise and talents. So, whether that means giving a talk once a year, communicating with a KU student a couple times a month, or leading a committee, any involvement is appreciated. Our current needs are below, but if you would like to contribute in another way, please let us know. We are all ears!

If you would like to help current KU students you may apply to:

  • Be a mentor in our “Under Our Wing” Mentorship Program
  • Be a speaker in Lawrence, discussing what you do and how students can best prepare for their professional lives, or give a demonstration.
  • Conduct a lunch-n-learn or give a workplace tour to students chosen to be a part of the Hollywood Hawks’ Career Orientation Week

If you live in Los Angeles, you may want to:

Serve on one of the following committees:

  • Communications – write content for our website and/or student newsletter, etc.
  • Events – plan, organize and promote events, etc.
  • Internships – help connect current KU students with people and companies offering internships, etc.
  • Membership – help recruit new members to our group, etc.
  • Programs
    • “Under Our Wing” mentorship program – recruit mentors, work with various KU departments to publicize this program, choose participants and match them with a mentor, etc.
    • Career Orientation Week – recruit professionals to speak and meet with students while they are in Los Angeles, work with KU faculty on programming schedules, etc.
    • film festivals – organize a group of Hollywood Hawks to work with each other to create a short film for entry into a festival at least once a year, etc.
  • Resume Review – serve as a “second eye” for Hollywood Hawks and Future Hollywood Hawks needing help with their resumes, etc.
  • Teach a free class in your area of expertise (ex. how to be a successful commercial actor, a basic Avid class, how to get distribution for your movie, etc.)

Also, if you don’t live in Los Angeles, but would like to start a Hollywood Hawks chapter in your city, please let us know and we’ll help get you started!
